>> But what will happen in the White House and Congress will be a spectacular breakdown in functionality. Even last year was a very "unproductive" one for Congress, and I don't see things improving in the near-to-mid term.<<

There have been 21 government shut downs in the last 50 years.
Congress is always dysfunctional when it's split between parties.
It's the norm and nothing new.

>> As for the White House, no one believes Brandon is in charge of anything. Even if he gets re-elected, the White House will simply be seen as a rubber-stamp machine. No one will have ANY confidence whatsoever in Brandon's ability to lead. And that will matter once the next crisis comes around, whether it be yet another war in a foreign country, or another recession, or another pandemic, etc.<<

There will be a recession probably starting in late 2024, just after the elections. <G> So whoever wins gets to own that. That will probably trigger a unified congress and president in the next election cycle.

Trump didn't lead during the pandemic and the country came through that just fine. The states have much more power than the federal government does.

>> But if Trump wins, it gets even worse as he becomes 100% unhinged. Then it'll be up to Congress, the Supreme Court, and even the states to stop him from usurping power and basically trying to make water run up a river.<<

Trump really can't do much. The presidents powers are very limited.
