Some are better at it though. The debt wasn't a problem until Reagan said he'd fix it. He promised a balanced budget in four years but already had the largest deficits in history. He was reelected and promised to balance the budget by 1990, but again he lie and had record deficits. Reagan didn't reduce the deficit by a single penny and every speech he gave on the subject was filled with lies. Watching trump lie all the time must be very normal to older republicans. They never knew anything else.
