yes prices need to come way down!
The good news for the eco-zealots is this: I don't think the cost of EVs have to come down that much.

But we have NOT yet crossed the inflection point, where the adoption of EVs starts to accelerate.

And no matter how much government tries to put the cart before the horse, they will NEVER overcome market realities.

EVs simply aren't there yet.

Personally I think the inflection point might happen around 10-15 years from now. It's within sight, that's for sure.

But that does mean, however, that Gavin Newsom's 2035 mandate banning all gas-powered vehicles is just way too soon.

Like everything else that the California state government plans for (e.g. high-speed rail, upgrading of power infrastructure, extending a mass transit line by a mere four miles), dates will have to be pushed out by a decade or two.
