What a weekend! Apparently this has been the coldest stretch of weather in Vancouver since 1937. I have been staying inside to avoid slipping on the ice, though even inside it is not too comfortable since as with so many apartments in Vancouver, the heating system was not designed to deal with temperatures like this.

At least it is currently back up to freezing here. A system due tomorrow night will warm us up further but is supposed to come with snow and freezing rain, so we are hoping it will quickly warm up to proper rain to clean things up.

I can't overstate how extreme the cold has been. Flights have been delayed all over Canada because it was so cold at the Calgary and Edmonton airports that workers like baggage handlers have only been allowed outside for 3 minutes at a time.

And there is a lot of trepidation among BC farmers. Last winter's cold snap cut the grape harvest by 50%, and there is much concern that this further intense cold will finish off many of the vines. How'd you like to a farmer in BC, in the last few years dealing with record heat, record cold, fires, smoke, and drought?
