I still remember nuke advocates crowing about how a meltdown was a billion to one odds. Obviously lies.

It's all about the failure modes. Because you cannot completely stop reactions in current light water pressurized reactor designs you absolutely have to provide cooling water at all costs. All the time until the fuel bundles come out of the water.

Then they have to go in cooling ponds for a long long time and you have to provide water constantly....

It's not like turning off a light switch!
