OT: People were shorter, but the Shroud of Turin indicates a height of about 5'11".

Nowadays they use wheels.

In the Philadelphia Museum of Art there is a collection of Medieval Armor.
All of them were short people. 5'6" or less. I was surprised at 1st sight.

Alexander probably had a big horse, though.
