Maurice,
I have not yet bought an electric car. A wealthy friend has bought a couple of top end electric Mercedes and a smaller car for his wife. But it wasn't an economic decision. Regular humans need to save money.
As someone who owns a plug-in hybrid, I highly recommend Toyota's hybrid cars like the Pious or the Corolla for anyone who needs to save money. They also consume less gas, don't need to be charged (except optionally for plug-in models), and doesn't come with the range anxiety that the EV zealots are trying to ignore.

Most vehicles in America on the road are NOT fuel efficient small cars. They are gas guzzling SUV’s and Pickup trucks. So, your argument about fuel efficient ICE’s defeating demand for EV’s doesn’t hold water. I can understand your HC burning bias having been employed by one of the most polluting petroleum companies out there - BP.
