Paul Allen was cofounder of Microsoft and a major contributor to the early success, but due to health issues he left the company in 1983 and from then on had little influence on the future success of Microsoft. But due to his substantial shares he had in the company made him a multi billionaire. I am not criticizing Allen, just proving some perspective. It is somewhat similar to Steve Wozniak at Apple.

The Accidental Zillionaire

Microsoft spawned two billionaires. Paul Allen is the other one.
