Jeff,

I need somebody to keep me from getting to far off track! Some of those problems we solved back in the 70's by moving the chips to the motherboard in the first place! I guess that I must 'really be getting old' now!

re: Dell on CNBC

Michael (paraphrased): "Compaq is looking more to a traditional, service type model of the computer industry. We see a more horizontal open system. This is not the way people are buying PCs."

"We don't want to alienate our hardware partners".

--------

It is clear to me that Michael Dell is endorsing Intel as the engine behind Dell's phenomenal success. It is clear to me that he is happy with the arrangement and sees nothing but success with it.

It's time that Wall Street realize that Intel is the engine for Dell.

Who is engineering and building all of Dell's product? (Intel)
Dell is nothing but a distribution channel for Intel products.

Said 76% growth in the Far East. Growth! not slow down. "Without the Asian crisis we might have grown at a faster clip"

"Have seen strength in the stronger markets, Japan, China, Singapore"

I don't think the analyst have realized that IA architecture is so prevalent and product is so reliable that the world can use Intel based systems without technical support. This is opening up new markets that are beyond the reach of service networks. Apparently it is the Dell brand that is finding them.
