<<Warm air does not make deserts cool by radiating heat into a vacuum.>>

Did I forget to state that there is a column of air above a Desert (approx. 1000 millibars) and that convection will take place? Convection is an important mechanism how the Desert cools down at Night. Thank you for this clarification and correction.

But let me continue about Radiative Heat Transfer that will also be occurring in the desert. Not only in deserts but everywhere and from all things dead an alive above zero degrees Kelvin (not Fahrenheit or Celsius). Everything! Mountains, Deserts, Stars, Planets, Molecules that make up air, Pebbles on the Beach, the Sea, Specs of Dust, Cars.... everything, even during the coldest day during the coldest winter in the coldest place on Earth. Or the universe, if it's above zero degrees Kelvin, it radiates heat.

It doesn't matter even if it's a Desert on an Asteroid (with no atmosphere), that just dropped in from Billions of km away from the very cold Oort Cloud or an Desert on Planet Earth with an Atmosphere. Heat Radiation will be happening.

Regarding Cloud cover and Heat Radiating into Space, I was explaining how Water Vapour (Clouds) are a very powerful "Green House" Gas.

Fact is Eunice Newton Foote knew her stuff. She checked out Water Vapour too.

"When she observed how the temperatures changed, she found that the cylinder with CO2 and water vapor became hotter than regular air, and retained its heat longer in the shade"

Below is a demonstration. Note the symbols at the bottom of the diagram indicating cloud cover, The graph shows the amount of Heat Radiation changing as the amount of clouds overhead change. They call this "Downwelling" as they don't like the "Blankets" analogy. A blanket is effective for stopping convection processes (that you mentioned) as opposed to "Downwelling" of Reflected Radiative Heat by the Clouds. They prefer to use the analogy of "Space heaters" to represent clouds.

Also see where they say... "(all things emit radiation at all wavelengths at all times), to see a confirmation about heat radiation.
