Great catch. I did not hear that as I have not reviewed the results yet. I would view that as favorable. Egg

Yes, they have been taking UNIX share from sunw according to Information week. Good point.

Charles, btw, I was hoping you would have chimed in with your jmho on the failed fed ex deal. I am surprised that everyone has ignored this. Do we not think this is as big a deal now to all of you, as it was when it was first floated? Addi, you too please.

If you simply ignore it, it will go away.

the board was subjected to an edited version of the HP press release so as not to shed any negativity on the love fest here. Here is the unedited version.

>>Servers

The company's server businesses posted mixed results. UNIX system servers achieved excellent revenue growth.
Demand was particularly strong at the high end for the HP 9000 V- Class server, as well as for the K-Class servers
in the midrange. PC servers -- the HP NetServer family -- had good growth in units, compared with a very strong
prior-year quarter, but achieved only a slight increase in revenue. Demand for low-end HP NetServer systems grew
strongly this quarter.<<

You will note three things. One. In Net servers, they were up against a very strong prior year result. Two. UNITS showed good growth. Three. But revenue showed only a slight increase.

UNITS are what takes share and loses share. HP felt revenue pressure because prices are declining. that is a fact of life in Wintel. sunw has yet to acknowledge fact of life but its only a matter of time. You have to understand that falling prices...GOOD. High prices...BAD. I know it is counter intuitve but you better start thinking that way.

Also note that UNIX was strong on the high end for hwp. I know how you guys will SPIN this and I know how I and HP will.
