do most cable
companies provide the cable modem, or do you need to purchase it yourself?

I had to purchase mine and buy it through the cable company.

although cable modems supply more bandwith, dsl solution i believe will win out because
consumers foot the bill for the equipment on their end, thus lessening the capital required
for the rbocs to rollout a dsl technology.

I agree. In fact, the RBOCs have very little investment.

i hope the cable and phone companies lock in mortal battle and lower the prices to
consumers.

I am anticipating this. It likely will happen.

Glenn

currently cable modems can be purchased
from the CATV company.

However, GIC and others are now selling the
modems direct to superstores.
