Looks like the current transmission method for GoldPickaxe.iOS relies on social engineering and convincing someone to install it, since it was removed from Apple's TestFlight app, which I think only developers use.

Apple usually fixes these things with iOS updates, and in this particular case, the number of people affected would be pretty low. My guess is it will be addressed by the next update.

In the last 20 years or so I've supported many iOS devices and Macs in my job and with family, and I've never run into an iOS virus. The Mac viruses I've had were one DNS changer, a few adware infections, and a couple cases of Flash malware installs (by the same person). All were easily fixed manually or with free software, and Flash is no longer an issue since it was deprecated several years ago by Adobe.

Frankly, I worry far more about telemarketer scam calls targeting my aging parents. My mother has fallen for two of them so far.
