It sounds like a machine learning job. I had a thermostat in my house over 20-years ago that used "fuzzy logic" to learn how to make the HVAC hit the exact temp at the exact time you set it to do so. It would continuously adjust and adapt based upon changing conditions and inputs. You can imagine how archaic that circuit board must have been inside that thing. It was a Honeywell, and it died after only about 6-years. Probably worked to death <G>
