Miraje,
I made some points about conservative Russian culture (I've been there, you haven't) being offensive to the liberal left mindset as a contributing factor (not the only one) in exacerbating the level of Russian hatred here
All that is both inaccurate and irrelevant.

The core topic here is whether we should be supporting Ukraine in PooTin's war of choice.

You think we shouldn't. You think PooTin doesn't represent a general threat to international peace and stability.

Fair enough.

But when you start echoing claims that the left primarily wants war because they supposedly hate RuZZia's oh-so-conservative culture, that's when you are clearly jumping onto the Moscow Qarlson bandwagon.

Tenchusatsu

P.S. - Iran isn't a haven of DEI, either. Neither is Gaza. Why is the left so supportive of those two countries?

Ref Russia & Ukraine. You are right imho, if everyone had stayed out of it, there would not even been a war.

I posted this to Eric.

At the end of the Steve P video, he mentioned a quote on Russia by the 19th century German Statesman Otto Bismarck. I was able to find the quote finally.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Otto von Bismarck 1815–98German statesman
1. The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia.
in 1863, when first in power
A. J. P. Taylor Bismarck (1955) ch. 7
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I went through a lot of other quotes before I found it on a different link.

Some of them are interesting for various reasons. Maybe explains wars and some other things we are seeing today.

Otto von Bismarck quote: The division of the United States into federations of equal... (azquotes.com)

The division of the United States into federations of equal force was decided long before the Civil War by the high financial powers of Europe. These bankers were afraid that the United States, if they remained in one block and as one nation, would attain economic and financial independence, which would upset their financial domination over the world. The voice of the Rothschilds prevailed... Therefore they sent their emissaries into the field to exploit the question of slavery and to open an abyss between the two sections of the Union.

Otto von Bismarck

Never believe anything in politics until it has been officially denied.

Otto von Bismarck

One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans (1888).

Otto von Bismarck

The death of Lincoln was a disaster for Christendom. There was no man in the United States great enough to wear his boots and the bankers went anew to grab the riches. I fear that foreign bankers with their craftiness and tortuous tricks will entirely control the exuberant riches of America and use it to systematically corrupt civilization.

Otto von Bismarck

Even the most favorable outcome of the war will never lead to the decomposition of the main forces of Russia, which is based on millions of Russian ... The latter, even if they break up international treaties, just as quickly re-connect with each other, like pieces of a particle of mercury.

Otto von Bismarck

He obtained from Congress the right to borrow from the people by selling to it the 'bonds' of States ... and the Government and the nation escaped the plots of the foreign financiers. They understood at once, that the United States would escape their grip. The death of Lincoln was resolved upon.

Otto von Bismarck

Anyone who has ever looked into the glazed eyes of a soldier dying on the battlefield will think hard before starting a war.
