Eric,
Toyota has done a great job over the years making a better, more reliable vehicle in successive generations.
Toyota also foresaw the problems with EVs, which is why they stuck with their hybrids, including their plug-in hybrids.

Right now, I'm doing very well with my plug-in hybrid. Thanks to my driving routine, my Pious only runs on gas about 25% of the time.

That's almost as good as a full EV, but without any range anxiety.
