<<Where did you get that bullshit?!>>

I stand corrected. Thanks. I just listened to the exact phrase again.

I was out by a factor of 10. Here listen to it. At 1092 seconds.

youtu.be

It's not 50 ounces of silver it's 500 ounces. That is approximately 15 kilograms of silver!

Now we just have Andy S word on it, who talked to some guy who said he worked on the program etc.

But I thought I would just throw that out there.

Regarding the use of silver, a small amount is used in rf conductors to reduce impedance from the skin effect. I doubt even the most sophisticated electronic circuit would use even a part of an ounce of silver. Therefore if we are talking kilograms, it must be as machined parts of silver used in specific devices. Silver is fairly dense, about the same as lead.

The use of Silver in the silicon chip industry was limited for a long time because it's room temperature solubility with Silicon is almost zero, even though it is easily soluble at high temperatures, it just forms a mechanical interface on cooling down. These days any silver silicon systems will typically use intermediate metals like Titanium for a good ohmic contact. I have worked with silver in the past.

All this is just a faint on my part though. The whole emphasis of the talk about silver (and pm's in general) was that can be used to preserve wealth, not as an investment. That is clearly stated.

Crypto may be OK but it needs the internet. Some issues there.
Fiat is good while it lasts, and you can earn interest.
The stock market is good as an investment, can make lots, but we currently have (march 2024) a very narrow band of advancing stocks. The is historical evidence that is not a good sign.
etc.

If precious metals are chosen by a significant portion of humanity as a store of wealth (and as such, an exchange mechanism as well) , prices could fluctuate. That is the only point I wish to gently point out.

I thought the Visual Capitalist link was good for presenting an overview of the situation. All that silver does not amount to much at the moment. One teensy square at the top, as compared to the suspected number of opaque derivative contracts out there (nobody know exactly how many there are).

I thought it all worth a mention.
