IMHO the value of WCII is totally independent of the LMDS auction.

The idea that the licenses are going to form the princpal value of a successful telcom group is very short term and not related to the reality of running a successful business. Have a look at CVUS.

As far as surplus bandwidth .. absolutely. There is ample available now never mind after the LMDS auctions. Of course some people have a different view and thats why they have put up a fair amount of cash that they have for some reason decided to give to the FCC. Probably be a lot better if they gave it to the IMF who could give it to the SEA nations and thereby take the worry away from this quarters earnings. BTW I bet the ADSL technology get to market before LMDS and thats just this years ADSL and engineers following this thread may have a view on where xDSL can get to over the nextt couple of years. It may not be equivalent to LMDS but it'll take some of the shine off it.

Of course there are those who expect the next Microsoft to emerge from the LMDS auction and for a whole new industry to be created. Thats why Lucent just bought the LMDS division of HP. LU will no doubt get business and get paid for it. But earning a profit out of LMDS is going to require a little more than some hardware and having been successful in the auction. You are going to have to deploy and get the hardware and software to work. Then you need to get customers .....lots of them .....then you need to service them and keep them happy......then you need to be expert in local and long distance telephony, internet, video on demand, television and a host of other as yet undefined services. Great service.....the golden fleece of the telecom business BUT how many people on this planet currently get a bundled serivce and pay a monthly bill for it....answer (I believe but others may know better) a very round number.

So where does this leave WCII....well they have:-

1. Successful and highly experienced management.

2. Customers....and growing ranks of them....being serviced and being billed.

3. Hardware and software that works NOW ...TODAY not next month or next year.

They are in simple terms in business and growing very nicely. They are a probably a year ahead of anyone else in the field and these are the elements that give their share value.

Just my opinion.
