Eric,
China does not want to pay the big bill for importing fossil fuel energy, plus deal with the massive pollution it causes.
Of course not.

But unlike woke Americans, China has no illusions about what they can achieve today.

And if they already had the means to be self-sustainable with renewable energy, they would already cease all imports of fossil fuels, especially RuZZian oil:

Explainer: The numbers behind China's renewable energy boom (Reuters)
Despite China's global lead in renewables, it still generates around 70% of its electricity from fossil fuels, mostly coal, with thermal plants operating many more hours than renewable ones, according to official data.
By comparison, the U.S. - the world's second-largest energy consumer - produced about 60% of its electricity from fossil fuels in 2022.
How is China supposed to be self-sustainable with energy if a larger percentage of their electricity still comes from fossil fuels compared to the U.S.?
