There are lots of small farms where I live, three farms just on the estate where I stay. None of the farmers could be called academic in any special way. Last year, one of them had a huge bee colony in his roof and he asked a local bee keeper if he would take the colony away.

I think the bee keeper in question watches too much American Tee Vee. He sent the farmer a quote for over $1000 to help remove the "insect infestation". I gave the farmer name and number of the guy who removed the bee colonies from the boat yard. Naturally he did it for free, it was a huge colony too.

I think small farms, mixed use, some natural environment has a lot going for it. Traditional European food always tasted really good.
