Eric,
Actually he has learned over the years how to manipulate people for his own ends.
Just a nitpick, but I believe he's more of an exploiter than a manipulator.

Heck, his rise to political power was enabled by a huge group of Republicans who felt disenfranchised by their party leadership.

He discovered this group, he exploited their desires, and he benefitted big time.

In that sense, I also don't believe Trump manipulated anyone into an insurrection. He may have encouraged it, and he may have laid out the motivations that drove the insurrectionists to do what they did, but I'm not sure he did any of the planning.

That, I believe, will complicate efforts to criminally convict him. All his lawyers have to do is say that Trump never planned anything as was never directly responsible for the actions of the January 6th insurrectionists.
