Here's a link, if they give the stock to the shareholders of the limited I guess its a distribution of assets, a stock dividend or a spin off(A chance to make money anyway!!). Sometimes prior to a spin off, the parent will take the "spin off public" to set a value and create a market prior to distributing the remainder of the shares.

** Late Tuesday, LIMITED (LTD: 31, - 1/2) said it would close 200 Limited, Lerner, Lane Bryant and Express stores during 1998 through lease expirations as it revamps its overlapping women's divisions. Also, Limited plans to separate itself from its 84% stake in ABERCROMBIE & FITCH (ANF: 37-15/16, + 13/16) through an exchange offer to shareholders. See Full Story. infobeat.com

Technically, it is a spin-off, because LTD owns 84%, and crimps
Crombie's qrowth prospects (e.g. aquistion). In order to expose the
intrisic value the spin-off should have no restrictions, and completely divesting it gives it more independence... Immi
