Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE: TSM ) paused some chip manufacturing and evacuated facilities after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan on Wednesday morning. "A small number of tools were damaged at certain facilities, partially impacting their operations. However, there is no damage to our critical tools including all of our extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography tools ," TSM said in an emailed statement to Seeking Alpha. TSM, the main contract chipmaker for Apple ( AAPL ) and Nvidia ( NVDA ), added that all personnel were safe and returned to their workplace shortly after the incident. The company is evaluating the impact of the earthquake. According to TSM's initial inspections, their construction sites were normal. However, the company suspended work at construction sites for April 3, and intends to resume work after further inspections. The company added that it was deploying all available resources for full recovery, and impacted facilities are expected to resume production throughout the night. The earthquake, which occurred near Hualien City at 7:58 a.m. local time, was the most powerful tremor Taiwan has seen in 25 years. The quake prompted initial tsunami warnings in Taiwan, southern Japan and the Philippines which were later lifted.Micron Technology ( MU )  said  it was evaluating impact to its operations and supply chain , and noted that all its staff was safe. The company added that it would inform changes to delivery commitments to its customers after an evaluation is completed. Micron is the largest foreign investor in Taiwan and its output in the country accounts for about 60% of the company's overall DRAM capacity, according to a Bloomberg  report . Meanwhile, United Microelectronics ( UMC ) also paused machinery at some facilities and evacuated certain facilities at its hubs in Hsinchu and Tainan, the report added.
