In reality, you have no clue as to how much energy you can store in batteries vs. how much energy exists in the chemical bonds of hydrocarbons.

I'm chuckling here. I had a full year of chemistry at WSU plus a qtr in high school.

These EV batteries are so heavy, even tire companies are profiting from the increased wear that EVs generate on the tires

I've got over 40,000 miles on my original Tesla Model S tires and they are about two thirds worn. Today's EV tire designs are even better!

Shorter ranges, especially in cold weather

Pretty minor especially if the bat is "preconditioned" before I leave the house and that happens automatically when heading to my next Supercharger down the interstate. Think thermal mass....

A need to plan any trip around the availability of charging stations

Never had a problem on my coast to coast trips or anywhere here in the lower 48. You can't say that about CCS chargers here!

My car is almost seven years old and last time I checked battery capacity (about two months ago) it still retained over 97% of original capacity.

I have some Panasonic AA Li cells (30) that I received as engineering samples way back in 1999 that are still going strong.
