Swisscom Mobile Signs Agreement With DSC On Signaling Technology

Dallas, February 18, 1998... DSC Communications Corporation today announced that Swisscom Mobile, one of the world's leading mobile operators, has awarded the company a contract for the supply of DSC's INfusionT advanced switching systems. DSC's powerful open standards STP (Signal Transfer Point) systems will enable Swisscom Mobile to deploy a sophisticated, high-capacity signaling network for the delivery of advanced GSM services. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

With significant growth in mobile telecommunications services and with the added demands of network interconnection from international partners, DSC's future-proof STP systems will ensure Swisscom Mobile can deliver high-quality services and secure network interconnections."

DSC is a leading provider of advanced switching and intelligent networking (IN) equipment, with a family of products known as INfusion. Designed to function together or separately, these IN components enable a network operator to introduce new services rapidly, cost-effectively and in a scalable manner.

DSC's INfusion STP interconnects Swisscom Mobile's existing switches, HLRs (Home Location Registers), EIR (Equipment Identity Register), IN, voicebox and interfaces to other networks in many countries. The system also features a highly modular architecture based on DSC's high-speed data transfer technology. Administration, maintenance and database translation functions can be centralized with the INfusion STP system.

Swisscom Mobile will be installing the stand-alone STP systems at its two international gateway sites. DSC's facility and staff in Darmstadt, Germany will provide local project management, technical service and customer support.

Swisscom Mobile operates a digital cellular mobile telecommunications network, based on GSM900 and GSM1800, throughout Switzerland. By the end of 1997, Swisscom Mobile achieved more than 1,000,000 subscribers. Swisscom Mobile today has roaming agreements in commercial operation with over 125 network operators in 75 countries.
