Mark, get yourself into the shoes of a new buyer.

Been there. How do you think I got my first Mac? And just who are these folks coming into CompUSA to look at (and buy) the G3 if not new users?

While I recognize the validity of the various scenarios you describe, I should also tell you that I appreciate the market's capacity for change. Apple's been pronounced dead far too many times now for my taste, and I'll not be fool enough to make any predictions on where we'll be one or five years from now. I will say, however, that the vast majority of the couple hundred thousand people who've purchased G3's will still be using them, if they haven't upgraded by then to a G4 or better. If Apple has lasted this long on a 3% market share, think about how much more life they've been given over the past four months. What is it Dr. Tyrell says to Roy in Blade Runner, something about the star that burns half as long shines twice as bright...?

I can't wait to read what we're all posting six months from now.

Mark
