Route 1 had like 18 mudslides on it about a week and a half ago, and complete wash outs both south and north, so Big Sur was completely isolated. The only way in or out was by National Guard helicopters, which are also in short supply. One section of road 400 feet long became a canyon, and other chunks fell into the sea. They've got it temp rigged so they let a convoy in the other day, mostly gas tankers, and supply trucks, and it was an all day thing to get in and out. They figure to open it again in a few weeks. A lot of the resorts are doing maintenance since they have no guests.

If you fax me the article, I can try my new OCR software and see if I can post it without having to type it. I'm going to the Sierras tomorrow though and may not get to it before I go, even if you get it to me in time. I'll email you the number. Good luck with the schedule!!!

Later,

Dave
