Herb,
<At this point in time I am seeing a best offer of 500,000 shares @ $9.00 and a best bid of 33,600 shares @ 8 15/16 . Will the 500,000 shares have to be taken out before the price will move up ?

Previous to the 500,000 share best offer , I seen a 300,000 best offer that must have been taken out before the present offer of 500,000.>

The 500,000 shares would have to be purchased before the price moves up.
When you saw the 300,000...it could have become part of the 500,000-- if it was at the same price...200,000 would have been added. Could be the same shares or new ones for sale.

Of course, who ever is selling could chose to take them out...for whatever reason...that could drop the ask as well.

Or they could decide to sell at a lower price...withdraw the ask and just sell at the market. Sometimes you'll see the quantity follow the price down. Most likely some manipulation to scare investors into selling.

Just the opposite (buying side orders) for the Bid sizes.

Very fascinating, discouraging, sometimes exciting to watch. But, you can determine a short term trend from which way the buying/selling pressure is.

By the way, did I help answer your question???
;)
