I was very impressed when Boeing was planning the 777 and specified the engines needed to produce 115,000 lbs. of thrust each.

This was at a time when most engines produced around 40,000 lbs of thrust.

Rolls Royce & GE were the first to hit that engine spec. That probably marked the zenith for Boeing product development.
