I have a long time Swedish friend, although he lived in Colorado since he was a young man. I asked him how his relatives are faring in Sweden. He talks and visits with his relatives regularly. He said, "The government has destroyed Sweden with unbridled immigration. This is what has happened."

I knew that, but other people did not. NATO is not what people in Europe ask for, it is shoved down their throats. The elites don't even want to have this discussion. Referendum would spark a discussion, and those opposed to NATO would be heard.

Much easier to have the media (serving the elites) silence the NATO opponents, and pass NATO membership in the middle of the night in countries parliaments.

What would NATO opponents argue if the discussion was allowed to take place? Austrian model of neutrality. If you know a little bit about the region, this could be a winning argument defeating NATO membership.

Still, joining EU was popular. Media confluences it with NATO to confuse people. Why was EU popular? For poor people, it is about possibility of going abroad, to a EU country to work. For rich people, it is about ease of travel, Schengen etc. Greater investment of Western firms (more and better paying jobs) another reason.
