Reg -

NT is popular because it gives more bang per dollar.

No, NT is popular because it runs Word and Excel, which was never the target market for Unix anyway. Unix' core markets are still quite untouchable by NT, thanks.

Granted, NT does give better bang/dollar in some cases, but only for those that need a fairly small bang.

I thought you were a big dictionary definition guy, Reg? Please do me a favor, and look up 'proprietary' in your nearest Funk and Wagnalls.

Reference declining UNIX market share.

Who are you, the federal government? Unix marketshare isn't declining, it's just not growing as fast as it once was ;)

This appears to be a major point of disbelief among the religous followers of UNIX. NT is popular because it gives more bang per dollar.

And this is what I'm trying to tell you Dilberts. THE COST OF SOFTWARE IS THE MAINTENANCE.

Does the 16 hour man-wasted time our department spent (price tag $1600+) get added to the NT COO (Cost of Ownership). THE ANSWER IS NO.

You guys don't have a clue how companies are run.
