When I saw this board lit up with 9 messages, I had no idea it would be SmoothSail. This is so sad to hear!

She and I had many PMs over the years about many topics we shared in common. She was a copy editor and worked on many TV scripts such as Gunsmoke. Her father was an AP journalist who brought many notable people in and out of her life.

I always admired her posts for both their content and clarity of thought. I often think of her when I'm about to add an adjective in a sentence because as an editor of manuscripts she had a disdain for filler words like very or really.

Most memorable thing was that she patiently helped me edit a short poem I had written some years prior that I wanted to enter in an online contest. With her help, it came in first place. She was delighted. It was and maybe will be my only literary achievement.

I will miss her.

She was one of a handful of posters here I had the privilege to know in 3D. She will be sorely missed.

I had originally met Mary at one of the SI meet ups , what a pleasure, we corresponded with DMs...i always looked forward to our conversations....very special person whom i hold in very high ,warm regards

I was fascinated by her sailing exploits...once, while i was in LA visiting my son, i texted her and suggested lunch and visit, instead she invited me to join her on a 'catalina cruise' ....the day of.it was a beautiful day, my son and one of his college buddies joined us.....i had never before sailed and my boating experience was limited to bass boating/fishing....she showed me the ropes and let me take the wheel.

Think we spent maybe 4 hours on the water, once we were back at the dock,,,she had prepared a charcuterie board along with drinks....it was beautiful

I miss her already, with gratitude
