Bay Networks Shows Continued Growth in Workgroup Ethernet and Fast Ethernet Switching Market

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1998--

Growth Led By Record Shipments of Over 1 Million Ports for Popular BayStack 350 10/100 Autosense Switch

Bay Networks, Inc. (NYSE:BAY) today announced that the latest Dell'Oro Group market data reflects the company's continued leadership in the worldwide Workgroup Fast Ethernet switching market with 40 percent revenue share and 40 percent port share, beating the nearest competitor, 3Com, by over 11 revenue share percentage points. This was in large part due to record shipments of the award-winning BayStack 350 10/100 autosense switch, which has in excess of one million installed ports.

According to the Dell'Oro Group, the worldwide Workgroup Ethernet switching market has grown 5 percent in revenue and 20 percent in ports from Q3 1997 to Q4 1997. These same reports show that Bay Networks has continued to grow faster than the market, with revenues increasing by 30 percent and ports increasing by 56 percent from Q3 to Q4 of 1997. The report further demonstrates that Bay Networks has shown similar growth in the Shared Fast Ethernet space with 31 percent revenue growth, going from 19 percent to 26 percent revenue share in Q4 1997.

"We are very pleased with the latest results of the Dell'Oro Group's study because it shows that Bay Networks continues to grow rapidly in the Workgroup Fast Ethernet and Ethernet switching segments, while also growing or maintaining leadership where the company has traditionally been strong," said Grace Carr, vice president of corporate marketing, Bay Networks. "Also, industry analysts have forecasted that the worldwide LAN switching market will grow an average 30 percent per year and Bay Networks is committed to being a strong player in this space."

According to the Q4 1997 Dell'Oro Group report, Bay Networks grew by over 38 percent in revenues in the total Fast Ethernet switched market, once again growing faster than the total Fast Ethernet switched market by over 20 percent. In addition, the report states that the company continues to be number one in both switched and shared Token Ring with revenue share of 24 percent and 26 percent respectively.
