Brumar,
Did Dems in the Clinton days realize what they were making acceptable for Presidents?
No. They had no frickin' clue. Ends justify the means.

This is due to the breakdown of morals in this country, which in turn is closely associated with postmodernism.

In comes Trump, the first postmodern Republican, and now the Dems are oh-so-aghast at his blatant lies and his severe character flaws and his overarching ego.

It may be a moot point now, but the Dems created Trump.

And you now see too many Republicans these days resorting to "Clintonian logic" in order to defend Trump.

Such as "It's not rape rape."

Or "Lying about an affair isn't really lying because anyone would lie about an affair."

Or "It all depends on what your definition of 'presidential immunity' is."

Trump takes everything that was wrong with the Clintons to the nth degree.

And we're seeing the result of that with Trump's sex life on display.

As I mentioned before, Brumar, the ONLY reason why the sordid details of Trump's sexual encounter are relevant is, like you said, "Donny boy" denies everything.

Here's confirmation by the judge himself:

*******
Trump trial updates: After Stormy Daniels wraps testimony, judge denies motions to declare mistrial and loosen Trump's gag order (Yahoo News)

On the question of whether to grant a defense motion for a mistrial because Daniels’s testimony in which she alleged to have had sex with Trump had been prejudicial against him, Merchan, for a second time, rejected the reasoning laid out by Trump’s lawyers.

The more specificity Ms. Daniels can provide about the encounter, the more the jury can weigh whether the encounter did occur and if so whether they choose to credit Ms. Daniels’s story,” Merchan said, denying both motions.
*******

Why would the pron star's credibility even be relevant, if the trial was supposed to be about hush money payments instead of a sexual liaison?

Because the defense is trying to claim, with a pointed finger, that Trump did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Daniels. It's all made up. It's all a lie. Lie lie lie lie lie (h/t Bill the Emotional Child) ...

Trump and his defense team are the ones to blame for the dirty details being relevant to the case.

I don't know if Alan Dershowitz addressed this point or not. If he didn't, then he's avoiding the question. If he did, I'd like to know what he said.
