Respond to of 2786 I'd buy one but... I have returned to China after +3yrs absence. Things have changed for the worst. Arrived just before the 1May holidays in Beijing. Have to say Beijing is a city I like.. more each time I visit. My wife (Chinese) & I stayed in a modern hotel in an on- going renovating hutong. Nice to stay away from the sterile Western type high-rise hotels. Anyway, since it was the holiday, it was a crazy peopled world in Beijing! On returning to Shenyang.. N.E. of Beijing, noteworthy in that BMW has it's China ops there. press.bmwgroup.com Shenyang is a crappy industrial city, pop +8mil well off the beaten path but also is well known for nefarious N.Korean crap out of it's Shenyang consulate. Getting back to the realities of 2024, China is not like it was when I exited in 2020. Real estate has collapsed, unemployment is up like youth unemployment +20% I've been told (taxi talk dominates the realities of life here). In public, people are not spending scarce money.. this past Sunday afternoon in Shenyang's commercial/ business city center, few people whereas a few years ago it was packed. A nearby Walmart, virtually empty yet people are still walking & milling about but they're counting their yuan now, reluctant to spend. Maybe the Chinese will buy BYD's Seagull instead of the locally made & much more expensive BMWs. It was difficult to meet a foreigner in this forgotten city before covid but now I'm thinking maybe impossible. I told my wife, since China gave me the Western boot as well as with other foreigners, why was I still able to travel easily +25 countries since then? So much for the brilliance of Xi.
