<< My contention with you is one thing and one thing only.... that is, you point to Cisco's inability to deliver on promises - not on outside factors >> The point is they haven't delivered, what's the difference what was the reason? They shouldn't make promises they can't keep if they know RBOC spending or problems in Asia or a general slowdown in networking can occur. To be fair, Chambers admits that Cisco at times has a couple of quarters of slow performance. It's been 3 now so he better pick up the pace. << The picture you paint is worse case.. >> You make it sound as if I am making a case for future problems with C$CO. I can do that too, but I am making a case for what has already occured. Five quarters ago C$CO reported 64% y over y EPS growth. That has slowed down to the 25-26% range for the last two quarters. The slowdown has already occured, yet the stock hasn't slowed down. Don't even get me started on a worst-case scenario for Cisco. That would be ugly. C$CO claimed to gain market share across the board. They said Europe was strong. North America was robust. Asia didn't hurt too bad. Rosy, rosy, rosy. Yet they still came in with the slowest growth in revenues in the company's history! How come they came in with such weak numbers if everything went so well? Sounds to me like Cisco benefitted from a close to best-case scenario. Worst case would have meant Asia was worse than expected, Europe wasn't strengthening, North America wasn't robust, and they failed to increase market share. << As for John's cockiness - what did he say that made you think he's cocky? The market asks him for his views on the future and he provides them with his views. I guess since he's not saying the company is going to tank and that earnings will be off, that makes him cocky. Well pardon John for being bullish on the company he runs >> I have listened to him on CNBC, conference calls, and I have read press releases and articles with him. Here is a John Chambers quote: "We have been in a fast sprint, and we just outdistanced everybody, and broke their hearts, and their minds, and their bodies. " Total arrogance.
