Jack, I just do not see why it must be either of those scenarios. I can easily see some stagnation between let say 8200 to 8700 for the next six months, then a spike down, and then a run of 50% from the spike down (if it indeed gets to my old 6200 target which now seems more and more elusive <VBG>).

BTW, if anyone cares about money growth these
days, M3, the money measure (not the English
motorway <g>) is now increasing and accelerating
in the US at over 11%. FWIW.
