Paul-Financial analysis is only part of the tool waiting for or finding the trigger event is also part of the game as it can be macroeconomic or specific to the company so its plenty of data compilation. But isn't that how Buffett had the most success as he always has the cash to take advantage of the black swan events.

I agree there is plenty of noise in the middle that is hard to resist that is why people either trade shorter term which I tried in the past and broke even with plenty of unnecessary stress or in my case now prefer to use low delta options usually when the implied volatility is high and use them where you get paid more premium than you dish out to bide the time and the strategy takes quite a bit of risk out of the picture. FWIW it is working for me as it gives me more time to read information and the daunting task of ranking a portfolio should I need cash.

Speaking of the subject of past publications I used Value Line and the Wall Street transcript which is a very expensive publication that both were free at the public library I used. TWST performed in depth interviews with managements about their business and went through earnings transcripts similar to seeking Alpha and was extremely informative reading especially for the time.
