Probably reading too much into this Dave. I know Oracle's position is one server for both (I worked with Oracle for 8 1/2 years). The reality in the market these days is that clients do tend to want to separate their DSS systems from OLTP, so it's quite possible to tune products for both. Also as more and more users place greater demands on DSS systems, functionality required in DSS environments (read only tables, no logging etc.) conflict with the needs of OLTP. This can possibly lead to compromises within single server solutions like Oracle's.

The UDO is currently more 'application' focussed for want of a better expression. i.e. media storage, spatial data servers. These need high level performance which the Informix architecture delivers- regardless of the options used.

Matt.
