Speaker Mike Johnson

56th Speaker of the House of Representatives--

My statement on President Trump trial verdict:

Today is a shameful day in American history. Democrats cheered as they convicted the leader of the opposing party on ridiculous charges, predicated on the testimony of a disbarred, convicted felon. This was a purely political exercise, not a legal one. The weaponization of our justice system has been a hallmark of the Biden Administration, and the decision today is further evidence that Democrats will stop at nothing to silence dissent and crush their political opponents. The American people see this as lawfare, and they know it is wrong—and dangerous. President Trump will rightfully appeal this absurd verdict—and he WILL WIN!

Sharkie,
Mikey Cohen pleaded guilty to 8 counts of similar felony charges and got 3 years.
Some in the media (no, I'm not talking about FOXNews) don't think Trump will get any jail time ...

*******
What prison sentence could Trump face following guilty conviction in hush money trial? (The Independent via Yahoo)

Under New York state law, the maximum prison sentence for a Class E felony is four years in prison. New York imposes a 20-year sentencing cap for this type of offence, with a decision on whether the sentences run concurrently or consecutively left up to the judge.

Given that Trump has no prior criminal record and the crimes are non-violent in nature, it is likely he will face no jail time.

Instead, New York Justice Juan Merchan could impose other penalties such as fines, probation or conditional discharge in lieu of jail time.

*******

In other words, don't hold your breath.
