I agree that Merck is a buy and hold stock.
The dividend has increased steadily. Clinton's
health care policy attempts when he was first
elected gave investors a very unusual gift--chances
to buy the premier growth stock at bargain prices.
I didn't buy more since it is a huge percentage of
my portfolio. The only better deal on Merck was
to have Medco at a good price before Merck bought them.
It just goes up and up . . .
Bruce

Hi Jack,

there's a rather reliable e-mail publication called
The RightLine Split Report, out of Austin, that predicts, in
this morning's edition, the announcement of a 2-1 stock split for Merck, on Feb. 24th or 25th.
they also give the probability of there being an announcement, their highest rating.

guess we'll see, huh ?
good trading.

Jack,

In Re: War.
When the Gulf War started in 1991, the market went up significantly. I think what we are currently seeing is buying by people hoping not to miss another jump if hostilities resume. However, I think they are wrong. There was a significant downward trend during the build-up from August to January and the 1991 upward movement was a bounce from that trend once it became apparent that we were crushing the enemy forces and were not headed for a second Vietnam.

cheers,

Rich

to all:

while i am happy about the price uptrend in Merck, i am a little confused about why the street is so bullish on the company since they will have medicines going off patents in the next few years.

will their new drugs produce so much in earnings that this is not a worry? or is this a flight to safety thing because of southeast asia? or perhaps it's about the aging baby boomers that will need medication? please excuse my ignorance but if someone can clarify this, then please do.

thanks.

Will

ps. for the record, i am long the stock.
