when Palestine was admitted as one of its non-member observer states, the United Nations started using exclusively the name State of Palestine. [10] [11] [12] [13] The European Union (EU) also uses the term "occupied Palestinian territory". [14] [15] The government of Israel and its supporters use the label "disputed territories" instead. [16]

The Gaza Strip and the West Bank had been occupied by Egypt and Jordan, respectively, since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War until the Six-Day War of 1967. Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in 1967 and has since maintained control. In 1980, Israel officially absorbed East Jerusalem and proclaimed the whole of the city to be its capital. The inclusion, though never formally amounting to legal annexation, was condemned internationally [17] and declared "null and void" by the United Nations Security Council. [18][ need quotation to verify] The Palestinian National Authority, the United Nations, [19] the international legal and humanitarian bodies [20] [21] and the international community [22] [23] regard East Jerusalem as part of the West Bank, and consequently a part of the Palestinian territories.

Palestinian territories

There are many. The settlers want free land and enough settlements to eject Palestinians completely. They have money and guns courtesy of the US taxpayer. A type of final solution.

Israel will not accept a 2 state solution so ejecting Palestinians from the West Bank is a strategic goal for them. Probably flattening Gaza is also a strategy.

Many Palestinians neither accept a 2 state solution which gives Israel and excuse to annex other people's land.

Strategically speaking, Israel has given Hamas a win in World wide opinion win when it could have been a loss.

Strategically Hamas cannot be defeated as thousands of Gazan kids now hate Israel with a passion and will be willing to die to kill Israelis any way they can. They don't have jets or tanks so their recourse is to kill the easiest targets.

yes, 2,000 pound bunker buster bombs are noted for minimizing civilian casualties when dropped on tent cities.
