Meanwhile, 1979 was marked by gas lines and rationing, something that is conveniently fading from the collective memory of the American public.

I was commuting to work from Hermosa Beach to Marina del Rey in SoCal back in '79. Trying to find gasoline was a bitch. I had a co-worker with a connection who let me siphon a couple of gallons from his tank a few times or I would have been out of luck. In spite of that, I loved LA back then, smog and all. Now it's gone to hell, along with the rest of CA.. :-(
