Hi Stan:

While I would still recommend the Heller Myotomy (with doe Fundoplication - this is where they moved my stomach higher to minimize reflux) there is a newer procedure where they go down through the esophagus to do the slice. I haven't researched this one too much but would think the recovery is quicker.

Until I was diagnosed I went from 160 lbs down to 125 and while I'm back to 150 lbs I lost quite a bit of muscle. It will be 9 years this September and I was 60 years old then.
