A few years ago a cold war era Russian Submarine that someone had bought was docked in my home town on the Fraser river. It was open for viewing and I got a chance to go in it and look around the outside. This sub was cramped inside and the Russian sailors had to be short to serve on this thing. to dive we were told the sailors all had to go forward. I was checking the quality of the welding and workmanship, it was very poor, big ass Texas weaves on the hull, the ballast tank holes looked like they had been cut by a beaver, jagged edges. One look at that tub, you could not pay me enough to sail on it
