Thought I'd provide some info on various spin-offs & special
situations that I've found and hadn't seen here. I'm certainly
not invested in all of these, but others might find something
to their liking. Standard disclaimer - information is not
garanteed to be correct (do your own homework). All companies

PriceSmart (Nasdaq:PSMT) / Price Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq:PREN) August 29,1997

International version of Price Club. Lot's of cash, but Emerging
Market exposure.

ChoicePoint, Inc. (NYSE:CPS) / Equifax Inc. (NYSE:EFX) August 7, 1997

Provides risk management and fraud prevention information. Very
good growth prospects in my opinion.

Unisource Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:UWW) / Ikon Office Solutions Inc. (NYSE:IKN) December 31, 1996

Distributes paper products. Big yield (now %5+), lots of room for
improvement in results.

Unova Inc. (NYSE:UNA) / Western Atlas Inc. (NYSE:WAI) October 31, 1997

Sells industrial automation systems (typically to big autos) and
automated data collection systems. Growth-rate of markets is
~12-15%, maybe spin-off will be grow faster.

Things having to do with Corn! Apparently, the corn products market
is not the best right now.

General Instrument Corp. (NYSE:GIC) / General Instrument Corp. (NYSE:GIC) August, 1997

Commscope makes cable. General Semi make semis. The new General
Instrument is focused on growth areas such as set-top boxes.

Getty Petroleum Marketing (NYSE:GPM) / Getty Realty Corp. (NYSE:GTY) March 21, 1997

Getty Petroleum distributes petroleum, Getty Realty owns property.

Bolle, Inc. (Nasdaq:BEYE) / BEC Group, Inc. (NYSE:EYE) March 11, 1998

Bolle makes eyewear. Fashion eyewear tends to be cyclic (1996
earnings from Bolle $0.59, 1997 $0.09 if I remember correctly),
but the industry seems to grow nicely.

Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. (NYSE:WDR) / Torchmark Corp. (NYSE:TMK) March/late 1998

Waddell & Reed is a money management firm. TMK plans to IPO in March
a percentage of shares (20%?) and then spin-off remaining shares in
late 1998. Spin-off looks promising.
