DAVID, I am not much of an OO guy, but it was my simplistic view that ...

... on the negative side:
- OO was still not ready for high volume transaction systems due to the overhead of the messaging required to run OO
- OO skills in the marketplace are scarce
- the tools market to support OO development is not mature
- initial development cycles are longer

... on the positive
- OO reduces time to market of subsequent solutions
- OO reduces maintenance cost.

IMHO, It seems like a risky move to base the future of the Genesis project on OO. Agree? Disagree? Think I'm off my rocker?

And please tell me that IBM is not working on this project.

>>They
just purchased the fasted Mainframe available by IBM, G (something).
This is all part of their Genesis project to consolidate hardware/software
platforms. This will reduce dramatically the maintenance cost of the
various vendors they have in house. Their business is driven by
Hp9000's, Sun enterprise servers, and Tandem Mainframes today.

Would you care to enlarge on this a bit? Specifically, how
does moving away
from HP, Sun, and Tandem servers dramatically reduce maintenance
costs into the future? I'm not trying to be contentious, but.
as others on this thread know, I am skeptical. I would really
like to hear a sound basis for this statement.
