Not 40 trillion. That kind of debt is a country killer. 40 tril / 350 mil residents = 115,000 owed for every man, woman and child 40 Tril @ 5% = 2 trillion annual interest Total federal Govt. revenue (taxes) in 2022 were 5 trillion The point being that debt rots from within. Combine that with 1.8 million border crossings per year (which I think is low) and the associated costs of supporting them and you've got a recipe for disaster.
