Why?? I'm going to play devil's advocate for once. You invest billions deploying a system, why over a 2-3 year period abandon it?? Make sense to you??

The flip side is why disregard your investment into CDMA??

The problem with mobile TDMA, you are sacrifying precious B/W to sit idle while you accomodate channelized demands. That is the present day rap on wireline by MSFT!! So as you can see, my diatribes aginst this monolith aren't meaningless bites (both MSFT and TDMA mentality).

In wireline you have a huge investment that deserves the right to recover and make a profit. Same with wireless. The GSM/TDMA crowd choose wrong, IMO.
It has been known for along time that it isn't the future for data, yet it is choosen. So be it. Don't blame me!! I saw it coming a couple of years ago.

I guess in some regards, I wish that MSFT would hone it's attacks to dismantle TDMA as an inefficent methodology. Problem is, their is a legitimate right for them to recoup cost and make a profit, too.

Which leaves us to the present day delusion. Voice is a given in both standards. Data is what it really is all about. Which system is flexible to deliver, CDMA!! Now the GSM mongruls can say what they want, unless they attack MSFT in the manner that I have, then they are deceiving the public. Plain and simple!!!
