STRONG BUY
Tellabs~(TLAB)
Summary

We believe Tellabs will be awarded a significant contract
with Bell Atlantic for its Titan 5500 SONET based cross
connects. At an analyst meeting in New York this afternoon.
Bell Atlantic management indicated that it is nearing
announcement of a multi-year, potentially multi-billion
dollar network upgrade program. As part of this, Tellabs
was mentioned as the likely supplier of wide-band cross
connects. We believe this award will be material to
Tellab's growth over the next few years and may produce
modest upside to our current estimates. Until details are
confirmed, however, we maintain our current estimates. We
maintain our STRONG BUY rating and price target of $77.
